Our 2013 Escondrijo (the name means ”hideaway”) was aged using large format barrels (400L) to preserve the freshness in Grenache, and a combination of 400L, 300L, and 228L barrels for both Syrah and Petite Sirah.  After fifteen months in barrel the blend was assembled and left to rest for three months in tank before being bottled. This blend offers great depth, bringing together these three Rhone varietals to create a wine that is layered with a gorgeous bouquet of red and blue fruit, dried orange peel, soy, black truffle, cigar box, all-spice, peppercorn, and roasted meat - followed by an explosive palate with concentration, fine grained tannins, and elegant acidity bringing length to this powerful, focused offering.   

Technical Information:

Soil Types: Linne Clay Loam - this whitish gray soil contains limestone pieces beginning 18”-24” below the surface.  The presence of limestone captures and preserves the freshness in this wine, and being a heavier soil lends itself to a rounder mouthfeel.
Santa Lucia Clay Loam - This soil lends itself to brighter, floral aromatics and lower pH.  Being a heavier soil it also lends itself to a rounder mouthfeel.
