This wine is one of a kind. We did not begin our harvest with the intention of producing a wine like this. The vintage and the vineyard came together to produce one 400 liter barrel from this singular block. We thought it was special, so we bottled it.
This wine is very dark and savory. It opens with grilled blackberries, plum, black cherry, anise, and peppercorn. The palate is very fine and broad, filling in with mixed berries, cherry liquor, and almond. It builds to include cocoa powder, blackberry, fresh thyme, and a touch of black clay on the finish. This is a truly singular wine. One that could only come from a small patch of earth at Refugio Ranch.
